River Safari’s Giant Panda couple, Jia Jia and Kai Kai, were brought together for natural mating on 13 April after having displayed courtship behaviour for weeks. However, the session was not successful, and their keepers attribute this inexperience in mating to their young age

To help Jia Jia conceive, the River Safari veterinarian team has collaborated with Professor Ng Soon-Chye, an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist internationally renowned for his expertise in human reproductive medicine.

The keepers and vets are hopeful that we might be able to see a baby panda at the River Safari soon but we might have to wait till Sep before the pregnancy is confirmed.
