Dr John Yam is an Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist accredited by the Singapore Ministry of Health in Assisted Reproduction.
Besides receiving his medical training at NUS, he also completed postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the National University Hospital and KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
Dr John Yam was an Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore, a Clinical Tutor at the Faculty of Medicine, NUS, a Trainer of MRCOG Part II in Singapore, and an examiner for the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Clinical Performance Examination.
Dr Yam has also written many articles in scientific journals and books. Besides minimally invasive surgical techniques, fetal monitoring, gestational diabetes, & the management of gynaecological emergencies, he has contributed to the scientific literature on a wide range of topics.
Among his publications is a reference citing his research on intrapartum fetal surveillance in Williams Obstetrics, one of the top medical textbooks and vade mecums in the field. His specialty includes:
- Fertility & Reproductive Endocrinology
- Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Suregery (including single port laparoscopic surgery)
- Pregnancy Care (particularly monitoring of the mother & fetus during labour delivery)
Dr John Yam is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore. A Fellowship of the RCOG was awarded to him in 2013. Because of this award, the specialty receives recognition for its continued contribution to the field and its integrity in practice. It marks a senior status in a profession.
Having managed thousands of pregnancies & deliveries, Dr Yam enjoys walking couples through the birth process from conception to birth. He is skilled in insemination, ovulation induction, controlled ovarian stimulation, and in vitro fertilisation, and understands couples’ frustration and pain when attempting to conceive.
He is one of a few accredited assisted reproduction specialists who also practice obstetrics. Aside from gynaecological surgery, Dr Yam also specialises in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.
