Professor Ng Soon Chye is a Medical Chairman and Fertility Specialist. He is an internationally renowned specialist in the area of reproductive medicine.
In 1982, Professor Ng Soon Chye started Asia’s first in-vitro fertilization program in Singapore, resulting in Asia’s first test-tube baby in May 1983. He developed the first SUZI (subzone insemination) baby in 1989. The technique involved injecting weak sperm directly under the egg’s shell (zona pellucida), enabling fertilization. It was the first micro-injected baby in the world. He performed Asia’s first ICSI baby in 1993, which extends the SUZI technique by injecting sperm directly into the egg.
In 1981, he became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) of London, having graduated from the University of Singapore (NUS) in 1974.
Between 1977 and 2003, Professor Ng Soon Chye served in the NUS and the National University Hospital (NUH) (from 1977 to 1985, he was in the University Unit of the old KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital). Between 1997 and 2001, he served as Chairman and Chief of O&G at NUS and NUH. In 2000 to 2002, he was also Chairman of the Committee of O&G, Graduate School of Medical Studies, NUS, which was responsible for postgraduate training in O&G.
He is especially interested in infertility (including male infertility), laparoscopic surgery, and hormonal disorders. Especially when it comes to infertility, he serves as an adviser to the Ministry of Health. As an adjunct professor in the School of Biological Science, Nanyang Technological University, he lectures in Development Biology and Obstetrics & Gynecology at NUS. His specialty includes:

Professor Ng Soon Chye is actively involved in research. Between 1997 and 2003, he was Director of the WHO Clinical Collaborating Center for Reproductive Health and the WHO Clinical Collaborating Center for Family Planning Research and Training.
He has published extensively in the fields of human embryology and in-vitro fertilization, especially microinjection.
